my, my, my talk about a wild one. you know i'm a pretty fit chick, but i admit that i obviously am not "nature" oriented. a fellow friend invited me to get out of the city for memorial day weekend and i jumped at the chance. she wanted to do a hike on bear mountain and she mentioned "paved trails". well, to me that meant walking in central park. HA! what a fool i was.

we had brunch first and headed for Metro North. let me say that i'm in pretty good physical condition. i don't work out as much as i should, but i can get the job done. so, those paved trails, yeah, they didn't exist. it was hiking! pure, straight and narrow hiking which means no paved trails. and the two of us (being as city as we are), missed the trail the first time. we literally walked around the lake looking for this "trail". as intelligent as we are, we were lost in this state park! so, we started again and that's when we noticed the trail heading up into the woods.

i was ready for it and happily started the journey. as we climbed up the mountain, my dear friend who chose this activity, slowly lost her patience and willingness to climb this mountain. she literally became a different person: cranky and highly ticked. it was a funny transformation (we can't stop laughing about it now). i can't count how many times i heard "are we there yet?"

so we got to the top and it was truly worth it, although a lot of people simply drove to the top of the mountain. i'm proud to say that on such a beautiful day i made it to the top...in low rise jeans and a pair of Saucony sneakers with a Dooney & Bourke bag on my shoulder. oh yeah, i was dressed to hike. didn't i mention she said "paved trails".
